web-app saphire™ for windows
Web-APP Saphire is a version of Web-APP, the Web Automated Perl Portal, for users who want to run the script on their own Windows pc or on a small network or Intranet.
Uses: Install and test the script on your local machine, or use it to run your home office Intranet or network, or set up a music server in your house for the whole family or college dorm where music can be accessed from a database from any computer in the house, dorm or office, etc. The possibilities are limitless. Safe and super fast!
Saphire is configured to run almost exactly the same as the default Linux version that was originally released at web-app.org but instead - on your personal computer, and comes with a few extra features.
System requirements: Any Windows 32-bit or 64-bit system, including Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vista/7.
Differences: Some of the differences between the standard release of Web-APP and Web-APP Saphire: Saphire contains additional features such as plugins, mods, different graphics, different default theme and column layout, CAPTCHA and banners disabled by default (admin can turn these on if needed), different mail program, etc. The files in Saphire are seperated in a different manner so the user can simply drop the files in their appropriate directories on their pc.
Saphire's version numbering is purposely different from the standard Web-APP script so as not to cause any confusion between the two editions.
The default path to Perl is set to "#!perl", installs to C:\Program Files
The instructions I give assume you are using Indigo* on a Windows XP machine but if you are using something different such as Activestate or Win 98 (or other version), there will be some minor configuration necessary for your specific pc. (Limited support for Vista users).
Current version: 0.8 (similiar to Web-APP 0.9.9.7-0.9.9.9 with additional features as mentioned above). Web-APP is released under the GNU General Public License - free and open source. No spyware, no adware, no viruses. Does not install anything into Windows directories.
Theme Support: Most of the latest themes released at WebAppWorld.net should work with this version. If you need support for modifying a theme or something doesn't seem right after installing it, you can get support. Three themes come with the default installation package and you can get additional ones that have been pre-configured for Saphire here. It's very simple to configure a theme that runs on the standard release of Web-APP so that it works properly with Saphire.
